OUR PROGRAMS

Dr. Terry Woods and Joy Hostetler of the Grant park Clinic met with the Christ Child Society of Atlanta Board to discuss the layette program.

Donating layettes to the Grant Park Clinic is the signature program of the Christ Child Society of Atlanta.  The layettes include bedding and bath supplies, sweaters, socks, diapers, bibs and bottles for needy mothers attending the clinic.

The Grant Park Clinic

The Grant Park Clinic serves over 600 pregnant women and 7,000 other patients annually.   In absence of a high risk pregnancy, most of these women do not qualify for Medicare and do not have family members here.  Many travel hours on a bus to get to the clinic for their appointments.  Since many of the women are Hispanic, Spanish speaking volunteers are always needed.

Book Drive.  The waiting room frequently becomes full of children.  Reading stories to these children is another way our volunteers assist the clinic.  Currently, Christ Child Society of Atlanta collects and donates used children’s books for these children to take home after their visit to the clinic.

Books have also been distributed to the Catholic Mission, Catholic Social Services, Solidarity School, and low income elementary schools.

Grady NeonatalChrist Child volunteers will be able to train and volunteer to hold babies in the neonatal unit.  We will also sponsor a lactation room, which will provide a quiet, private space for a new mother to bond with her child.

Center for Children and Young Adults, Inc. (Open Gate/Another Chance/Turning Point). Our members provide “My Stuff” bags to children placed in temporary housing by the state.  These bags include underwear, toiletries, and personal items.  They are given to children when they enter the facility.  A child may stay for up to three months.

Atlanta Day Shelter  The Atlanta Day Shelter provides training, clothing, food, and a place to rest for homeless women and children during the day.   In the summer of 2004, Christ Child Society of Atlanta members completed a colorful mural on the once blank cement wall, which is located next to the playground.  Donations of clothing, house hold items, and volunteer hours are also provided by our membership
